Proud To Be Rotarian

A complimentary service to all who want to know more about Rotary Club International.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank PSR Frank and PSR Richard for their support and for giving us the chance to attend the joint Rotary meeting of the Shanghai Clubs and the All-China Meeting. The formation of the Hangzhou Rotary Club was a milestone for us as well because it gave us a glimpse into the heart of the community. They had the opportunity to learn “real life” club organization, experience Rotary’s unique flair at meetings, and understand firsthand what it means to be a Rotarian.

This book, “Rotary in Your Life: Meet the Way to a Better Community Understanding,” is an invitation to explore how Rotary molds global citizens and local leaders. It’s about understanding the dual impact of personal growth and community development that Rotary fosters. From enhancing your professional network to deepening personal friendships, spearheading local community projects, and impacting global initiatives, Rotary offers a unique platform for anyone aspiring to make a difference.

Structured to walk you through various facets of Rotary, each chapter delves into different aspects of its influence. You’ll discover Rotary’s role in global health initiatives, its efforts in promoting peace, its commitment to fighting illiteracy and poverty, and how it equips leaders like you with the skills to effect change. This book presents an insider’s view of an organization that has quietly shaped the world for over a century through personal anecdotes, interviews with fellow Rotarians, and insights drawn from extensive research and very personal moments.

“Rotary in Your Life” is written for a broad audience. Whether you are a seasoned Rotarian, contemplating membership, or simply curious about how to integrate service into your professional life, there is something in these pages for you. It’s also a call to action, challenging each reader to consider how they, too, can contribute to their community and beyond.

Finally, this is more than just a book; it’s a reflection of my dedication to Rotary’s principles and my belief in the power of community service to change lives—including your own. As you turn these pages, I invite you to open your heart to the possibilities that await in Rotary, where business meets humanity, and leadership fosters friendship and growth.

Do not expect this book to cover all aspects of Rotary Club culture and ways to run and service your club. It is merely scratching the surface and is written emotionally and informally. It is my way of experiencing RCI and my Club in Ningbo, China, as an RC Fellow. I consider this my part of serving as a mentor for those who are willing to truly and deeply experience RCI and their RC and follow the 4-way test of RCI ” in good and in bad days.”

The Four-Way Test asks:

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships – Fellowship?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

It is so simple, and that is the most challenging part of it.
